ROLO PRETZEL TURTLES

My friend Lindsay gave these to me and although I have seen them before I underestimated their yumminess.

Even though everyone has these Rolo Pretzel Bites on their Christmas plates, I never get tired of eating them because they’re that good.

The buttery, salty pretzels with the chewy sweet caramel is divine. I loved them so much that I made them with my boys today.

I let them put M&Ms on top but for adults salty crunchy pecans makes these taste just like a turtle. This is one of the easiest recipes and a fun activity to do with your kids and takes less than 5 minutes.

I had to give them to my neighbors immediately so I didn’t eat them all.

VARIATIONS ON THIS RECIPE

Make these easy pretzel treats your own! My kids don’t love the pecans but go crazy for the M&Ms and you can use red and green M&Ms for the holiday season.

  • Hershey Kiss: Use a Hershey kiss instead of Rolo for Christmas Rolo pretzels. The white and black striped Hershey Hugs are really cute. During Christmas time they have a red and white striped Hershey kiss as well.
  • Peanut Butter version – Use a mini peanut butter cup instead of a Rolo for a peanut butter delight!

I love these candies. But, I have two grandchildren who are lactose intolerant. I just discovered that there are dark chocolate Rolos!! These are ok for the kids in moderation….. so I’ll be making them this year!!

  4. Shannon Reply

350 degrees for 3 minutes is way too long. The caramel oozed out the sides and the M&M candies slid off the pretzels resulting in an ugly mess.

    • Christy Denney Reply

Sorry! It is fine with my oven. I guess every oven is different and you might need less.

When do you unwrap the Rollo before or after you eat it?

    • Christy Denney Reply

      before

  6. Sonya Reply

I love these, but they’re so much better if you unwrap the rolos. The instructions say
Place unwrapped Rolos on top of pretzels

We have been making these for years, It is fun to involve husbands, children and especially grandchildren, We use the twisted pretzels then the rolo with a red mm looks like Rudolphs nose. The pecan ones taste like ‘Turtles” and for those that don’t like nuts just put another pretzel on top on the rolo for a sandwich, Lots of options, use your imagination,

Hey I need to make 27 little baggies of these for family…any idea on how many bags of pretzels, pecans & rolos I will need? Also, how many days in advance do you think I could make these?

    • Christy Denney Reply

You can make them way in advance but I have no idea how many you would need. 6 per baggie?

I make these every year…can I also suggest also using mini reeses cups? Especially now that you can find them unwrapped in a bag-much easier!

what a wonderful idea, add some sweet accompaniment like this, you can use also chocolate or strawberry jam, the accompaniment is the less important issue, just try it anything and enjoy preparing this.

These are my favorite! I always eat way too many of them! I think I’m going to make them today. Thanks for this post!

  22. Veronica M. Reply

My friends and I refer to these as “Rolo Crack.” Every time I make a batch “for gifts” I end up having to make two because I eat nearly all of the first one myself. This stuff is dangerous b/c it’s so easy to make and so addictive! Love your picture.

whenever I make these I can’t stop myself from eating every last one!!
