Open Interactive Star Map (ISCP v3)
Origins of ISCP
The Inner Sphere Cartography Project (ISCP) is an attempt to create an interactive, platform independent Battletech starmap. Like in previous Flash based version we used our old database of map data, but this time we corrected it using official BT maps from various sourcebooks. Current version contains the clan worlds and periphery systems also, and covers the eras 2750 (Star League fall),3025 (before the 4th SW) ,3030 (after the 4th SW), 3039 (war of 3039), 3056 (after the clan invasion), 3063 (before the FedCom civil war), 3068 (start of the Jihad).
System and planet descriptions come from Encyclopedia Galactica (ENCGAL). The whole ENCGAL database was added and converted. Descriptions are sometimes incorrect: this is neither ENCGAL nor ISCP failure. There are duplicate planet names in the Battletech Universe (about a dozen identical names), missing planets (no starmap contains these worlds), and so on. Report us, if you find any problems. Affiliation in clan planets (that are jointly owned by more than one clan) are set to the largest faction on that planet.
The system uses hmtl5 and javascript, therefore a modern browser is needed to use it. It consumes lots of resources, therefore it can be slow on older machines. We recommend Chrome browser, because it tends to run javascripts much faster, than others.
Usage
You can reach the starmap from here, or from the Planetary Database. Planetary database embeds the starmap in smaller size, but you can reach the full version from there.
When starting it will build the starmap for the given era. You can select a new era on the bottom right corner.
Pan and Zoom
Basic operation is quite simple. Use mouse drag to move the map and mouse scroll or the + or - buttons on bottom right to zoom the map.
Route Calculation
The world marked with a star is selected as origo of route calculation.Hover your mouse curson over any world, and the starmap will calculate the standard jump route to there. Sometimes there are no standard jump route. Detailed jump route can be seen when opening the "Standard Jump Route" panel below the search box.
Click on any world to select it as origo of jump route calculation. Two bubble will be shown around the selected world. The Jump Bubble is 30 ly, and it shows the area, which is reachable by one K-F jump. The HPG Distance is 50 ly, that far goes a standard HPG signal.
Detailed information
Double click the world, if you want to display it's descriptions. Open the right top "Description" panel to read complete geographic/historical data along with affiliations through historical eras.
Search
Simple input the planet's name into the search box in the upper left corner. Choose from the suggestions or click on the search button. There is a home button before the search input box, that always returns focus to the original planet.
Map background
Click on the 'M' button on bottom right, to load the corresponding bitmap based starmap. Sometimes our planet-bullets does not fit, but it is not the error of the starmap: different era maps sometimes differ in one or more star-positions. We took the 3067 map from Jihad sourcebook as the basis. Some justification problems can be seen, but it does not hinder usage.
Area of Influence
Click on the 'A' button to display influence areas of any planets. Influence area is defined as the 30ly range of a world. (that's one jump)
Labels
Sometimes - when using bitmap backgrounds, or for better performance - it is easier to switch off the world labels. Click on the 'i' button on the bottom right to toggle planet labels.
Help
Click on '?' button to display a quick reference card with all this information.
Authors
The Inner Sphere Cartography project owes it's existence to the following people:
- Galaxy Commander Phoenix Wolf (code, project founder, cartographher, corrector)
- G.O. Killer (cartographer)
- Shadowhawk (map of 3063, cartographer)
- Endrosz (cartographer, software architect)
Older versions
We still have the older Flash based v2 version here, but it has only the maps before the correction.

Kitsune User 2022.08.12.|22:53:55 (#6) Are there plans to add the Aurigan Reach to the map? Also, if I can throw an idea at you. The ability to modify planet ownership would be great as well. It would allow people to track changing boarders or simply just play around with things. Just thoughts. |
Galaxy Commander Phoenix Wolf Founder 2014.05.06.|14:37:45 (#5) Thanks for your compliments! |

cesar User 2011.06.08.|22:05:24 (#1) The Inner Sphere Cartography project is a great piece of work. I found it almost a year ago and I became so impressed about its functionality. Just I came back to play again with it but I guess Online version is not working any more. |
